New Delhi, August 29, 2019:

“Millions of people get affected with Dengue globally, every year and the best way to deal with it is by preventing it, especially during monsoons. With the onset of monsoons, we witness a sharp increase in the cases of dengue. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquito known as Aedes Aegypti. Four serotypes of Dengue virus are found in India, DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4.

The carrier of Dengue is a mosquito and hence the disease can be prevented if one can take precautionary methods to avoid mosquito contact. It can be avoided by collective efforts in houses and offices, where water should not be allowed to stand for a long time. Water should be removed from coolers or containers once a week or must be treated appropriately, use mosquito nets while sleeping, or wear long-sleeved clothes to protect from mosquito bites.

It is advisable to get blood tests done for a timely diagnosis in consultation with the treating physician if there are symptoms like high fever, severe headaches, muscle pain, joint pain, rashes and pain behind the eyes.”
