Construction workers do not need to stand in long queues at government offices anymore for registration: Dy CM Manish Sisodia

Delhi Building and Other Construction workers Welfare Board under the directions of Deputy Chief Minister and Labour Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia granted COVID relief disbursement of ₹10000 each to 1825 construction workers. Delhi Government had already disbursed ₹5000 each to 217039 construction workers as covid relief disbursement this year. This relief comes as an additional benefit for construction workers who are hit hardest due to Covid Crisis in Delhi.
Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, Government of Delhi decided to disburse the relief amount to those construction workers who were registered with Board as on 30th September, 2018, on the condition that if they renew their membership they are eligible for relief benefits. Deputy CM Shri Manish Sisodia said, “I urge all construction workers who were member of the Board before 30th September, 2018 to renew their membership with Construction Board so that they are able to receive disbursement benefits.”
Sisodia said, “When the first lockdown was imposed due to the pandemic last year, Delhi Government was one of the first governments to grant relief disbursement to all the 39600 workers who were registered with Board in the month of March 2020. After taking charge of the Labour Department in November 2020, inspections and conducted mass registration drives have been conducted in Delhi’s labour offices. On the basis of these inspections and registration drives, a series of reforms have been carried out in Labour Department. As a result of this, within 6 months number of construction workers registered with Construction Board has increased to 2.38 lakh.”
In addition to this another reform in registration process of construction workers has happened where entire verification process has been shifted online. Sisodia said, “Earlier worker had to stand in long ques for hours to submit his/her application but now the entire process is shifted online which helps worker to quickly apply with Government and not miss his/her daily wage.”
More than 10000 construction workers will also receive the relief amount in the coming weeks. These construction workers belong to poorest of poor section of the society and were one of the hardest hit during Covid crisis. This relief disbursement for construction workers comes as a much needed support during these difficult times.
