Globally, the emergence of coronavirus new variant, Omicron has once again aroused fear among people. No country is out of the woods from the pandemic.

In India also, the new COVID variant continues to pose ‘very high’ risk in the form of third wave and posing serious threat & potential challenge to both human life and healthcare. The rapid surge in the number of Omicron cases has become a major source of concern.

As the higher risks of this virus is evolving so it is imperative to understand that we all need to take collective measures and necessary precautions to prevent further spread of Omicron. Government is reiterating and urging people to abide by COVID norms and appropriate behaviour

Omicron variant is prevalent among both non-vaccinated and vaccinated population. However, the latter are more likely to report milder symptoms. A very large number of people have received immunity either because of vaccination or due to natural infection, hence, the developed antibody levels have high efficacy against all types of viruses including new variant, Omicron. Amid Omicron scare, there is no need to panic, and to stay alert & vigilant.

The medical fraternity and scientists are closely keeping an eye on the developments of new variant including symptoms associated with it. It is evident that timely detection and correct management of such critical infections may go a long way in effective treatment to save precious life. Now, we have many new tools including vaccination and booster dose to prevent and treat Covid-19.
