Metropolis’ MedEngage Scholarship Program recognizes 122 young medical students with Awards & Scholarship grants

New Delhi, March 28, 2022:

Metropolis Healthcare, India’s leading diagnostics service provider, concluded the 3rd edition of MedEngage Scholarship Program & Summit 2021-22. A flagship CSR initiative of Metropolis, MedEngage Scholarship Program rewarded 122 young medical students (final year MBBS & MD/DNB) with Awards & Scholarship grants of total worth up to INR 90 plus lakhs. This is in recognition of their achievements in academic scores, extra-curricular activities, and presentations.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Sushil Shah, Founder & Chairman, Metropolis Healthcare Ltd. said: “Through this scholarship program, we aim to recognize the hard work of the medical students by giving them grants to conduct testing for their thesis, support internship programs, and do training in our laboratories. By taking these steps, we intend to prepare them for the technological changes in the field of medicine”.

This year’s summit had received over 5000 registrations from several governments and private medical colleges located across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Andhra Pradesh among others. The awardees had to go through a stringent selection process based on their academic performance and several other evaluation parameters. Ernst & Young LLP was appointed as the process advisor for this scholarship program.

Launched in the year 2018, MedEngage Scholarship Program is aimed at nurturing and nourishing the medical talents in India. The program supports the students to contribute to healthcare research in the country by financially rewarding the deserving candidates and providing them with practical knowledge through Metropolis’ world-class laboratories and the panel of experts on board.

Dr. Shah added, “We believe that our constant support to these medical students will encourage them to complete their studies and pursue their medical practice in India which is already running short of doctors per population. With the successful implementation of the MedEngage program during the last three years, Metropolis looks forward to hosting a much bigger event every year and felicitating the young medical talents towards building a better healthcare ecosystem in the country.”

The shortlisted 122 students were selected from six different categories namely Champion of Champions (23), Pedagogue (36), Scholar Collar (15), The Vibrant One (21), Wizkid (6), and Wordsmith (21).

The  winners of this year’s edition were selected by an eminent panel of Grand Jury that included  Dr. Pradeep Waideeswar, Professor at the Department of Pathology (Cardiovascular & Thoracic Division), Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai & President of The Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists; Dr. (Capt.) Prateek Kinra, Human Resources Director under Government of India; Dr. Rajiv Yadav, Chief Operating Officer at Asian Institute of Oncology Pvt Ltd, Cumballa Hill Hospital, Mumbai; and Dr. Vivek Talaulikar, CEO, Gleneagles Global Hospital, Mumbai.

All the applications went through the first round of evaluation by a panel of senior medical experts including Dr. Amin Kaba, Honorary Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Grant Medical College, Mumbai; Dr. Arvind Krishnamurthy, Professor & Head of Surgical Oncology at the Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, Chennai; Dr. Neelam Mohan, Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at Medanta, The Medicity Hospital; Dr. Rajashri Kelkar, Educational Supervisor, MRCS Course, Texila American University, Coimbatore; Dr. Col. Jaswinder Kaur Bhatia, Prof. & HoD, Department of Pathology, Command Hospital Eastern Command, Kolkata; Dr. Sadhana Kuwelkar, MD Paediatrics, Newborn and Child Specialist, at P.D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Khar; Dr. Sowmya, SV, Faculty Member and Associate Professor with the Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, RUAS; Dr. Meena Desai, Chief Medical Officer and Consultant Histopathologist at HCG – Strand Life Sciences; Dr. Shanaz Khodaiji, Consultant Hematology and Transfusion Medicine at the P.D.Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Mumbai.
