New Delhi, March 8, 2023:

Professor Dr. Rajesh Acharya is a Senior Neurosurgeon at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital of Delhi. On 8th March, 2023 Dr. Rajesh, ran 21 km (half marathon) race at Nehru Park and has dedicated this 150th half marathon to his family and running community. His family and friends collected at Nehru Park to celebrate this milestone and Holi with cheers, colours & sweets.

Dr. Acharya who started running at the age of 53 years, initially participated once a year in the Airtel Delhi Half Marathons. Later, inspired by his runner friends, he completed his 50th Half Marathon on 1st March 2020 and 100th Half Marathon on 23rd January 2022. During the lockdown period, since these marathons were not organised, he found the alternative of virtual and solo running. Now he has grown into a fitness freak and is running a 21kms distance (Half Marathon) almost on every Sunday since past 2-years.

Dr. Acharya derives his motivation from his father Prof. S. S. Acharya, Hon. PM Modi Ji, and scores of running partners (Dr. SN Sethi, Dr. Kaura, Dr. Sita Ram, Dr. Bhatia, Dr. Vineet, Dr. Gaurav, Mr. Chikara & Prof. O P Sharma).

Dr. Acharya believes that “Age is just a number”. If one decides to come out of his or her comfort zone, with strength training and consistency one can run successfully even after 50 or 60 years of age. We should compete with ourselves, listen to our own body, take care of nutrition, hydration and rest for the muscles’ recovery.

Dr. Acharya who has now been running in all weathers; believes that “There is no such thing as bad weather, just soft people”. “If you have a will, it is very easy, if you have excuses, you never start”.

When asked what is the aim? Dr. Acharya quoted “The idea is to stay and die young, as late as possible”.
