Hyderabad/ New Delhi, March 7, 2024:

Apollo Cradle, celebrated womanhood with the theme #StronwomenstrongBharat, on the eve of International Women’s Day, to salute the spirit and strength of Indian women. Actress Kushita Kallapu along with specialist doctors, staff, and patient families graced the occasion.

Healthcare specialists highlighted the alarming and staggering fact of 90% of Indian women battling vitamin ‘D’ deficiency. This, they opined, significantly impacts a woman’s bone health.

Dr Swathi Goginenni, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital, Jubilee Hills, said – “Almost all Indian women are deficient in Vitamin D, may be because of their attire or mostly because we work indoors and are not exposed to sufficient sunlight, which is the main source of vitamin D.  Deficiency of vitamin D is linked to several symptoms – one feels very low, depressed, low energy levels, fatigued, and can experience muscle pains, bone pains, body aches, menstrual irregularity and poor reproductive outcomes. It is important to get exposed to sunlight every day at least for half an hour to an hour. It is important for the bones to exercise every day, consume calcium and vitamin D rich diets like milk, egg white, fish, liver and other such nutrients. Also, make it a habit to get your vitamin D levels checked periodically, and seek your doctor’s advice to take the right dose of supplements.

Dr Harika Bonam, Consultant Obstetrician & Gyneacologist & Lap Surgeon, Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital, Jubilee Hills, said – “It is very important to maintain normal BMI. Normal BMI levels ensure that we are free from menstrual problems, problems in conceiving, and menopausal concerns are also minimised.

Dr Sharmila, Consultant Paediatrician, Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital, Jubilee Hills, said, “If women are extended equal opportunities, progress can be accelerated manifold. Man in his life experiences the nurturing capabilities of a woman in the form of his mother, and the transforming capability of a woman in the form of his partner. I appeal to all women to not lose this innate ability while you compete with everyone in various spheres. The true sign of an empowered woman is how many others she can empower in turn. Also, don’t wait for a man to create a world you want. Create it yourself. Nature itself has given you the power to create, nurture and transform. Include men and make them a part of this journey of yours, to make it pleasant. Healthwise, it’s mandatory for all women to take the cervical cancer vaccine, because sadly every few minutes one life is lost to cervical cancer. It is very much preventable, with just two shots at less than 15 years of age, even if you are older than that, go ahead and take it if you haven’t taken it earlier.
