Lung cancer cases are on the rise in India, especially among women and younger age groups. This alarming trend is attributed to the increasing prevalence of smoking among women and early-age smoking among the youth. Additionally, lung cancer rates are also climbing among non-smokers and light smokers due to rising pollution levels and exposure to passive smoking, explained Dr. Radheshyam Naik, Consultant Medical Oncologist & Hematologist at Sammprada Hospital.
“Most lung cancers are diagnosed at an advanced stage—Stage III or IV. Only about 20-30% of cases are detected early, in Stages I or II. Prevention is crucial. People must adopt healthy lifestyles, quit smoking, avoid passive smoking, and minimize indoor pollution by reducing the use of fossil fuels. In areas rich in radon, homes should be made radon-proof to prevent leakage from the soil. A good diet, regular exercise, and minimizing exposure to traffic pollution can significantly reduce the risk of lung cancer,” advised Dr. Naik.
In observance of World Cancer Day, Sammprada Hospital in JP Nagar will be offering complimentary cancer detection screenings and discounted rates for cancer prevention vaccinations for girls aged 15 to 25 years. This vaccination program is a critical preventive measure for young women, aimed at reducing future health risks. We strongly encourage all daughters of our bikers and non bikers to take advantage of this vaccination at a reduced cost.
