Environment Minister Gopal Rai launches ‘Diya Jalao, Patake Nahi’ campaign on Monday

Environment Minister Gopal Rai launched the ‘Diya Jalao, Patake Nahi’ campaign on Monday. Diyas were lit in Babarpur Bus Terminal to mark the beginning of this campaign. During this, the Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated, “Collective efforts from the public are pivotal in keeping pollution in check.” .

During the event, he appealed to the people of Delhi to celebrate Diwali with diyas by stating that the two-pronged objective of the campaign, which is to stop people from bursting firecrackers and encouraging them to celebrate Diwali with diyas.

During the launch of this campaign, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, “There is a rise in pollution during Diwali due to the bursting of firecrackers. The air of Delhi becomes very polluted and it is very lethal for children and the elderly. The Delhi Government has organized a ‘Diya Jalao, Patake Nahi’ campaign at Babarpur Bus Terminal to spread public awareness about the ban on crackers.”

“Today, we are marking the beginning of this campaign by lighting diyas. We will run this awareness campaign throughout Diwali. Collective efforts from the public are pivotal in keeping pollution in check,” he added.

He mentioned, “There is a rise in pollution during Diwali due to bursting of firecrackers. Keeping this in mind, the government has put a blanket ban on manufacture, storage, sale (including delivery through online marketing platforms) and bursting of firecrackers.  He said that Just like Delhi, neighboring NCR states should also impose a complete ban on firecrackers.”

Minister Gopal Rai stated, “In order to reduce the pollution of Delhi during the winter season, the Government had announced the Winter Action Plan on 25 September.  On the basis of which the concerned departments have started work to implement it on the ground.”

The Environment Minister said, “We have launched Green War Room, from where it is being monitored. The Delhi government has succeeded in reducing pollution with the cooperation of the people. The government is running many campaigns to reduce pollution such as anti dust campaign, spraying of bio decomposer, tree plantation campaign, awareness campaign  Red Light On- Gaadi Off , water sprinkling campaign with mobile anti smog gun etc.”

Minister Gopal Rai stated, “Today marks the beginning of ‘Diya Jalao, Patake Nahi’ campaign to raise awareness among people and ensure that there is no pollution due to the burning of crackers anywhere in Delhi. It is pertinent that we ensure the safety and well-being of citizens while celebrating the festival. We will celebrate Diwali by lighting Diyas and save Delhi from pollution.”

“I am appealing to the people and children of Delhi to light diyas, not crackers. Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), Paryavaran Mitras are also a part of this campaign. Every individual has to make their share of contribution in reducing pollution. We have to understand that we are collectively responsible for the safety of the environment,” concluded the Environment Minister.
