Currently, factors such as rapid urbanisation, sedentary lifestyles, and changing food habits are making weight management increasingly challenging for city dwellers in India. Hence, it is the need of the hour to manage obesity and improve overall well-being. So, follow the vital tips given by the expert in the article below and improve the quality of life.

Obesity is rising at an alarming rate in urban India, becoming a major public health concern. Right from children to adults to senior citizens, everyone is battling obesity and struggling with it. So, due to fast-paced lifestyles, long working hours, and easy access to calorie-dense foods, maintaining a healthy weight has become more difficult than ever. People often find it challenging to battle the bulge. So, beyond appearance, obesity increases the risk of serious conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension, making it crucial to understand why weight loss is becoming harder and what can be done about it.

This is why weight loss is difficult:  Many urban professionals spend hours sitting at desks, commuting in traffic, and engaging in minimal physical activity. This lack of movement slows metabolism and promotes fat accumulation. So, a sedentary lifestyle will make it difficult for you to lose weight. Unhealthy eating habits are another major factor. A majority of people tend to have processed, packaged, and restaurant foods that contain sugar, unhealthy fats, and salt, and this adds excess calories without proper nutrition. Frequent snacking and irregular meal timings further disrupt metabolism and steal the peace of mind, causing weight gain.

Stress is also a factor causing weight gain. High-pressure jobs, financial responsibilities, and urban lifestyle demands increase stress levels, which can trigger emotional eating and hormonal imbalances that promote weight gain, which will need immediate attention. Likewise, Irregular sleep patterns, late-night screen time, and shift work can disrupt hormones that regulate hunger and satiety, making individuals more prone to overeating.

Moreover, environmental factors, such as limited open spaces for exercise and increased exposure to pollution, can discourage outdoor physical activity. Also, know that genetic predisposition combined with lifestyle changes makes urban populations more vulnerable to obesity.

What you can do to maintain an optimum weight:  To tackle obesity, small but consistent lifestyle changes are key. Prioritize home-cooked meals in minimal oil, and have balanced meals rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Incorporate at least 45 minutes of physical activity daily, even if it includes brisk walking. Manage stress through mindfulness, yoga, or hobbies, and stay relaxed. Ensure 7–8 hours of quality sleep and stay hydrated. Avoid crash diets and aim for sustainable habits.

It is time to get rid of those excess kilos, manage obesity, and prevent complications linked to it, such as heart, kidney, liver problems, and even stroke. Follow a structured routine on a daily basis, be self-disciplined, commit to healthy eating habits, and lose weight.
