Jaypee Hospital gives a new lease of life to a 40 yr old patient suffering from chronic liver disease

Noida, November 14, 2017: Jaypee Hospital, a Multi Super Specialty Hospital at Sector 128 Noida, received a liver today from a hospital in Vasant Kunj through National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO). The liver was donated by a 42 year old brain dead patient Mrs. Rekha Singh (name changed).

Rekha got admitted in the hospital on 10th November morning after which doctors found that there was bleeding inside her brain, due to which she suffered a brain haemorrhage. Doctors there declared her brain dead yesterday late night, after which her husband expressed his wish to donate her organs to help the ones in need. A liver and both the kidneys were donated by the deceased, of which the liver was allocated to Jaypee Hospital by National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).

Dr. Abhideep Chaudhary, Senior Consultant, Liver Transplant Department, Jaypee Hospital, Noida and his team led this mission and transported the liver to Jaypee Hospital successfully in about half an hour.

Dr. Manoj Luthra, CEO, Jaypee Hospital said, “It is heartening to see that people are gaining awareness about cadaveric organ donation. Organs of a deceased patient can give a new life to at least six – eight people. It is a noble cause and we are thankful to the donor and her family who have taken this courageous step and set an example for all of us. We are thankful to NOTTO for having a belief in Jaypee Hospital and helping us to lead this mission. We, at Jaypee Hospital have started an initiative called G.O.O.D (Gift of Organ Donation) to encourage people to come forward and give a gift of life to people by donating their organs.”

Dr. Abhideep Chaudhary, Senior Consultant, Liver Transplant Department, Jaypee Hospital, Noida said, “The liver at Jaypee Hospital is being transplanted to 40 year old Rahul Sinha (name changed), a resident of Ghaziabad. The patient had chronic liver disease since last year. He was suffering from jaundice and ascites (water started filling inside his stomach) due to liver cirrhosis and was in an urgent need of liver transplant since august this year. His family wanted to donate him their liver but their blood group didn’t match because of which they couldn’t help the patient. But due to the noble act of Rekha, this patient will be able to lead a normal life now.”

“I am thankful to the donor and her family who even in this moment of pain and shock came forward for this good cause. I will never forget the family’s bold step due to which my husband’s life will be saved,” said wife of the liver recipient, Rahul Sinha.
