Aster CMI promises to provide free of cost PET CT Scans for 100 underprivileged kids on the launch of its Nuclear Medicine Department.

Nuclear Medicine helps to determine the severity of or to treat a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurological disorders and other abnormalities within the body. As nuclear medicine procedures are able to pinpoint molecular activity within the body, they offer the potential to identify the disease in its earliest stages as well as a patient’s immediate response to therapeutic interventions.

Explaining about the services available at the Nuclear Medicine Department Dr Mythri Shankar, Lead consultant- Nuclear Medicine said We are starting the patient related work in the fully fledged department of Nuclear Medicine which is well equipped to cater to the clinical needs of a wide variety of patients for all age groups, with congenital, cardiac, thyroid, kidney and bone related issues. The department has high end, state of the art, modalities like Gamma camera/SPECT with CT, PET CT/ separate hot labs/radio pharmacy and a Therapy Unit

Dr M R Srinivasan, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shree Awardee talked about the pressing need for making modern medicine available in India said “The present medical interventions are extremely expensive and a challenge to access in India. I am impressed with the fine modern facilities that Aster CMI Bangalore has invested in. Big cities like Bangalore require much more of such technologically advanced centres, which will make modern medicine widely available and more accessible, thus bridging the gap between the need and availability

Dr Nitish Shetty, CEO, Aster CMI Bangalore, said It gives us great pleasure to launch the Nuclear Medicine Department at our facility, as it strengthens our commitment to provide the latest healthcare technology and the best clinical care. On this occasion I would like to announce that we will be providing free of cost PET CT scans to 100 children who are suffering from ailments like Lymphoma, Neuroblastoma and Osteosarcoma etc, but can’t afford treatments like this, as a part of our Aster Volunteer Programme initiatives.

Aster Volunteer Programme was started last year and it makes me happy to share that we have achieved a commendable number when it comes to spreading BLS awareness, where we trained 1,27,381 individuals, we did 19,146 free surgeries and investigations, we have recruited 70 differently abled staff in our organisation and 2,192 medical camps have been held till date, which have benefitted 3,27,008 lives. Providing free PET CT Scans to kids from humble backgrounds, is our way to give the society back by providing unhindered healthcare for those in need.”

The Department of Nuclear Medicine is fully functional from today onwards and the team of doctors here are enthused to provide the best clinical care for the patients.
