Nearly 4 in 10 Americans (39%) “somewhat” or “strongly” agree that cancer can be cured solely through “alternative” therapies, such as oxygen therapy, diet, and herbs, without standard cancer treatments, according to a national survey commissioned by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

Hearing aids and cataract surgery may protect against age-related cognitive decline in older adultswith hearing and visual impairments. The study on vision, which drew on participants in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) study, compared 2000 older individuals who underwent cataract surgery with 3600 who did not have surgery and found that the rate of cognitive declined was halved in those whose vision had been corrected through surgery.

For people with knee osteoarthritis, or at high risk for it, a brisk walk for just 5 minutes a day can lower the risk for total knee replacement over 5 years. Previous literature has been mixed on whether walking briskly is beneficial or could cause further injury in this patient population, said Hiral Master, PT, who is a PhD candidate in physical therapy at the University of Delaware in Newark.
