New Delhi, April 7, 2019 :

In a ground-breaking cosmetic procedure, Dr. Ajaya Kashyap, the noted cosmetic surgeon of the country, helped his patient achieve the youthful look by using stem cells on different areas of her face, derived from her own fat cells. Use of the body’s own fat to extract stem cells for cosmetic purposes is already documented in scientific journals1, but the application of the procedure is still in the nascent stage.

Dr Ajaya Kashyapsaid “All of us have a store of youthful stem cells in our body, that are present in everyone’s fat and bone marrow, and can be used in anti-ageing and regenerative medicine. The basic concept behind this technique is to use these baby stem cells, derived from the body’s own fat cells, to achieve far more effective results than any other cosmetic procedures that are been used conventionally. The fact that no foreign material is being injected in this procedure, not only makes it incredibly safe but also significantly reduces the chances of side-effects,”.

Explaining the procedure in detail, Dr. Ajaya Kashyap told, “To carry out this face rejuvenation procedure, we first took out 100cc of fat from the patient’s body with the help of a needle and sent it to the lab, where the stem cells were extracted from them over the next several hours. We then inject the derived stem cells with antioxidants into different areas of the patient’s face, resulting in beautiful regenerated skin and a younger look.”

With increasing acceptability of cosmetic procedures and awareness for available options, there has been a significant rise in a number of people undergoing cosmetic treatment. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery2, in 2016, in America alone, a whopping 15 billion dollars were spent on combined surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.

The trend can also be attributed to the availability of minimally invasive procedures like Botox and fillers injections3. However, considering the growing demand for anti-ageing treatments in the country, use of the body’s own fat cells in skin rejuvenation will surely offer a much safer and effective option to the people.

Ms Kanika Saluja, who is the recipient of this innovative cosmetic treatment and a well-known fashion designer, said, “Honestly, I was looking for some simple options for my face rejuvenation which are commonly available. It was only after meeting Dr. Kashyap and understanding this new concept, I became excited about it and decided to give it a try. The fact that the doctor was using my own body’s fat cells, made me extremely confident about the safety of the procedure. As you can see how good is the result, it is needless to say it turned out to be a very effective option also.”

Hopefully, the success of such techniques, which are more focused towards ensuring safety, will also help in ensuring better clinical outcomes of the cosmetic procedures. With the very patient getting incredibly good results from the treatment, it will be interesting to see how this innovative method will make its way into mainstream cosmetic procedures in the coming future.
