The Heart Care Foundation of India (HCFI), a leading non-governmental organization established by the late Dr. KK Aggarwal, commemorated the International Day of Yoga with an innovative initiative. Over 700 students across 5 schools engaged in an enlightening online yoga training session, led by the foundation, emphasizing the powerful role of yoga as a complementary therapy for chronic illnesses and providing hands-on experience of its numerous benefits.
This session was conducted by esteemed Yoga Expert and Naturopath, Dr. Satya Narayan Yadav, Director of ‘ARCHNA YOGAYATAN’ and Secretary General of the International Federation of Yoga Professionals. Naina Aggarwal Ahuja, Trustee, Heart Care Foundation of India and Founder, Talking Point Communications, moderated the session.
Joining hands with HCFI for this initiative were distinguished co-hosts Dr. Anju Mehrotra, Principal, Kalka Public School, Alaknanda; Dr. Bhawna Malik, Principal, Lovely Public Sr. Sec. School, Priyadarshini Vihar, Delhi; Ms. Pratibha Ahlawat, Sports Incharge, Maxfort School Rohini; Ms. Ronita Sharma, English Teacher, Jagannath International School; and Ms. Pooja Gaur, Foundational Wing Coordinator, Maharaja Agarsain Public School.
The International Day of Yoga is dedicated to the celebration and awareness of yoga’s comprehensive benefits. Yoga is globally recognized for managing chronic conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis, respiratory disorders, and mental health conditions.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Veena Aggarwal, Trustee at Heart Care Foundation of India, CMD and Group Editor-in-chief, IJCP Group of Publications and Medtalks said, “Living with a chronic illness can be physically and emotionally taxing, often requiring individuals to navigate various treatment modalities and cope with persistent symptoms. Yoga, with its multifaceted approach encompassing physical postures, controlled breathing, and meditation, has emerged as a valuable complementary therapy offering holistic support to individuals with chronic conditions.”
Research substantiates yoga’s therapeutic benefits, proving its effectiveness in enhancing physical flexibility, strength, and balance, as well as mental health. Besides, yoga also nurtures a sense of community among individuals facing similar health challenges, fostering a shared resilience.By making yoga a daily routine, individuals can actively participate in their healthcare journey, leading to improved well-being and a higher quality of life, despite the presence of chronic conditions.
Highlighting the positive impacts of yoga on health, Dr. Veena Aggarwal states, “Apart from physical benefits, yoga fosters mental and emotional resilience. Yogic practices help alleviate stress, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve overall mental health. The mindful nature of yoga encourages individuals to stay present, cultivate positive thinking patterns, and develop coping mechanisms to navigate the challenges associated with chronic illness.”
Heart Care Foundation of India is committed to celebrating the transformative power of yoga in supporting individuals with chronic illnesses. The NGO is a registered PrCB by the Yoga Certification Board, established by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and conducts regular training and certification programs for people of all ages and practice levels. The NGO believes that by embracing yoga as a complementary therapy, we can empower individuals to actively participate in their healthcare journey and cultivate a balanced and fulfilling life, despite the challenges posed by chronic conditions.
