The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), one of the apex trade associations of the country successfully organized another edition of the webinar series on ‘Illness to Wellness’ campaign, themed around “Vocal for Covid Vaccination: Experiences of Medical Experts”. ASSOCHAM organized this webinar with an objective to cascade mass awareness and disseminate knowledge & wisdom for the need to promote locally developed vaccine.

The virtual event was graced by a team of eminent Doctors who shared their valuable inputs on indigenous vaccines to fight the Covid-19 Global Pandemic, which included Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder K. Dhamija, Head of Neurology Department, Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi; Dr. G.C. Khilnani, Chairman, PSRI Institute of Pulmonary Critical Care & Sleep Medicine and Ex Head & Professor, Department of Pulmonary Medicine & Sleep Disorders, AIIMS, New Delhi; (Padma Shri) Dr Saumitra Rawat, Chairman and Head, Surgical Gastroenterology & Liver Transplant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi and Dr Rajesh Kesari, founder and director, Total Care Control who served as a moderator for the panel.

The ASSOCHAM’s campaign running under a CSR initiative supported by SAVLON & Digital Media Partner healhysoch aims at promoting healthy living with a keen focus on wellness and preventive health through healthy habits, Diet, Exercise, and Holistic Health.

Almost all the experts stressed that vaccination against COVID 19 at this trajectory or pandemic is very crucial and this is the most appropriate time that now we should immunize as many people as possible at this stage of the pandemic.

Dr Khilnani shared his personal experience of undergoing vaccination. He categorically mentioned that his experience of taking two doses of COVID–19 was extremely smooth and painless. He also observed that after initial hesitation for getting jabbed, people have given a very positive feedback about Government arrangement of giving medicine which was extremely good to cater to the gigantic challenge of coronavirus disease. “He also appreciated that elderly people were given special care and assistance with priority for COVID 19 vaccination.”

Prof. Dhamija while stressing upon the importance of vaccination reiterated that the vaccines are safe and he also narrated his experience as being very positive and hassle free. He also shared that as member of AEFI he has not come across any case of major side effects of both the vaccines being given in India. He added that “there are no major contra indications for the vaccine except active Covid infection or history of anaphylaxis or major allergies or history of plasma therapy in last two months.”

Dr Rawat explained that almost all categories of people with comorbodities are eligible and he called upon masses to come forward for vaccination. He also shared his experience of getting the jab as pleasant and better than many western countries.

On growing cases of COVID–19 in India for last one month owing to laxity in adopting an appropriate behavior Dr Rawat said that everyone must be very cautious and should continue to follow Social Distancing, wear facemask and take other precautions.

Dr Rawat further said that persons above 60 years of age and people between 45 and 60 years of age with comorbidity need to have a vaccination according to government guidelines.

He advised those having comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, etc. to take vaccination as per the guidelines issued by the government. In case of people having a doubt, they must consult their physician and seek their timely advice.

The session was moderated by Dr Rajesh Kesari, founder and Director, Total Care Control who also shed some light on the gravitas of the topic and highlighted the need to stay healthy and eat right, as he successfully summarized the discussion with expert inputs of the esteemed panel.
