Contemporary Insights from the Criminal Justice System in partnership with The Department of Policing, Criminology & Justice, University of East London, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Govt of Philippines, Indian Society of Criminology, Center for Studies in Victimology, TNNLU, and Center for Criminology & Forensic Science, HPNLU, Shimla. The two-day symposium was held on 17-18 March in hybrid mode. It witnessed an overwhelming response of participants with over 170 papers received and about 300 participants.
The aim of the symposium was to bring together leading academicians, researchers, practitioners, and students to exchange and share their experiences and research outputs on all aspects of Criminology, that is the criminal justice system.
The inaugural session was attended by Prof. Dr. P. S. Jaswal, Former VC, RGNUL Patiala, and Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal Ma’am, VC, HPNLU Shimla, IPS Harish Chander, DCP, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Noida, and Mr. Pavel Khalashnyuk, Representative of the Ministry of Interior, Counsellor of the Embassy of Russia in India. There were around 200 participants in physically with over 300 joining online. The symposium received good wishes messages from the Hon’ble Home Minister, Mr. Amit Shah, Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, Governor of UP, Ambassador of Sudan, and many others. The proceeds of the symposium are intended to be published as a dedicated journal listed in the UGC CARE.
Dr. Nishtha Jaswal said that a Man is born good, and no one is born as the offender. Human beings ultimately need some norms in living society and Law and order is the best facility to prosper in the world. Dr. Jaswal threw light on the topics of Terrorism, Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Crime concepts relating them to criminology by explaining how law is not static. DCP of Gautam Buddh Nagar. Noida, IPS Harish Chander shared his experience and the procedures followed as a police officer. He explained the concept of Veil of ignorance and Gandhian Philosophies. Director General of DME, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bhanwar Singh also acquainted the audience with different aspects of crime and the subject of criminology.
Delhi Metropolitan Education also inaugurated the Domain Specific Value-Added Certification Courses for its 3 schools of law, media, and management, which aims to create a skill-enhancing environment bridging the gap between academia and industry requirement to keep pace with the requirements of the corporate world.
The program concluded with the valedictory session presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Goel, Professor, NLU Delhi. Overall, it was a successful two days of deliberations on criminology.
