IMA achieved some major milestones during his tenure as the National President
New Delhi, December 27, 2017: Marking the culmination of his tenure as the 88thNational President of IMA, Padma Shri Awardee Dr K K Aggarwal, will deliver the 1st IMA Dr Ketan Desai Medical Statesman of the Highest Order Oration during the Central Council Meeting in Mumbai on Dec 27-28, 2017. Dr Aggarwal’s association with the IMA began as the Honorary Secretary General from and then continued as the National President. The IMA achieved some major milestones during his tenure. Dr Ravi Wankhedkar succeeds him as the National President.
Dr Aggarwal’s multifaceted and dynamic personality, and his quest for excellence was evident throughout his term at the IMA. This continues in the other roles he assumes – that of a physician-scientist, academic teacher, writer, editor, administrator and a public health activist. As the National President of IMA, he was instrumental in bringing about some major positive changes for the welfare of the medical profession.
Speaking about this, Padma Shri Awardee Dr K K Aggarwal, National President, Indian Medical Association (IMA) and President Heart Care Foundation of India (HCFI), said, “A few days back, I woke up in the middle of the night and it struck me that I was nearing the end of my term. I have a habit of writing my ‘Karma Book’ every night before retiring and first thing in the morning. So, I started looking at my Karma Year 2017 with some inputs from the year 2015/16. And, I asked myself ‘What did I achieve during this year?’ When I looked back on these years, I could pen down many things, which gave me the internal satisfaction of having done something for the medical profession under the given circumstances. These years have enriched me and given me valuable insights into the challenges and goals of our medical profession. I compare these three years in office to doing a ‘PhD in Public Health and Public Administration’. I have learnt a lot and am sure that till I remain alive I will use the knowledge gained through this experience for the betterment of the society. During the last three years, I found strength in the general membership of IMA and could further strengthen my bond with them through transparence and my daily communications.”
As the National President of IMA, Dr Aggarwal always chose the path of Satyagraha, primarily because his alma mater, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Sevagram, inculcated in him the Gandhian principles of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Sarvodaya (welfare of all).This year, under his leadership, the IMA made 11817 (277339) new members, 2 new state branches (32, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh), 11 new local branches (1726) apart from many new wings, projects and campaigns.
Sharing his views Dr R N Tandon – Honorary Secretary General, IMA said, “Dr Aggarwal is not only a pioneer in the field of medical science but also a great leader and orator par excellence. The developments at IMA during his tenure are proof of his leadership skills. He leaves behind a legacy and what IMA is today makes this all the more evident.”
