Mumbai/New Delhi, September 24, 2025:
Women today are experiencing premature ovarian failure, which means their ovaries stop functioning before the age of 40. Lifestyle factors such as chronic stress, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, and poor nutrition are playing a major role in this worrying trend. Doctors emphasize that timely recognition of symptoms and proper medical guidance can help women protect their reproductive health. It is time for women to focus on their reproductive health without any further delay.
Dr Amarja Paranjpe, Obstetrics & Gynecologist, Apollo Spectra Mumbai Said, ‘‘Early menopause, also called premature ovarian failure, happens when the ovaries stop producing eggs and hormones much earlier than the natural age of menopause. “While the average age of menopause is around 45–50 years, in these women, it begins much earlier, sometimes even in their early 30s. Apart from lifestyle triggers, genetics, autoimmune diseases, certain medical treatments like chemotherapy, and severe infections can also contribute to early menopause. Common symptoms include irregular or missed periods, hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and reduced fertility. In the last 2-3 months, 2 out of 10 women who visit me tend to experience early menopause. Many women ignore these early warning signs, mistaking them for temporary stress-related changes. Women who go through early menopause are at a higher risk of infertility, osteoporosis, heart disease, and depression. The loss of estrogen at a young age has long-term effects on bone strength, heart health, and mental well-being.”
Dr Paranjpe Added, “Women must follow the guidelines given by the expert. Ensure to maintain a healthy lifestyle with balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and stress management to reduce the risk. Regular gynecological check-ups and early medical consultation for menstrual irregularities are key. In some cases, hormone replacement therapy and fertility preservation options can help women manage the condition effectively. Recognizing the early symptoms of premature menopause and seeking timely care can help women safeguard their reproductive health and overall well-being.

In the last 2-3 months, 1 out of 10 women who visit me has been reported to have early menopause. This not only impacts fertility but also increases risks of weak bones, heart disease, and emotional health issues. Early menopause can be triggered by genetics, chronic stress, smoking, excessive alcohol, poor nutrition, and autoimmune conditions. Women may experience irregular or missed periods, hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and difficulty conceiving. Timely consultation with a gynecologist is essential. Women should be attentive when it comes to their reproductive health.”
