Chandigarh, August 13, 2019:

The Public Relations Society of India (Delhi Chapter) launched the second workshop titled: ‘When Emotions Hinder Communication by Dr. Shilpa Gupta’, under its flagship platform: ‘The Banyan Tree Series’. This specially conceptualized platform of ‘The Banyan Tree Series’, for communicators, has been imparting diverse knowledge on multifarious subjects to enhance the quality of life of professionals in the media industry.

Second workshop was focused on imparting emotional skills in order to help the participants better understand their feelings and address them appropriately. Our trainer of the day, Dr. Shilpa Gupta, said, “Our feelings continue to flow throughout the day, but we are rarely able to verbalize them. We are only bothered by the mood these feelings create. In the absence of an understanding of what is going on inside, we are always hindered. The first step to calm our emotions is to just be present to them. Emotional intelligence as a skill cannot be compromised in modern professional life.” During the session, she explained that sometimes is impossible to do away with our feelings and that we just have to learn to live with them. The workshop helped the participants surface these less understood emotions and equipped them with the psychological methodology of Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) in order to remove the botheration or pain they caused.

Shri Naresh Kumar, Chairman, PRSI said, “In this same hall PRSI has conducted sessions delivered by Sir William Mark Tully, former BBC Bureau Chief and Joshua Pollock, a famed author. We have been aimed to help public relations and media professionals in order to enhance their professional skills. Renowned and famed professionals from leading public and private sector organisations from Delhi-NCR, were part of the enthralling journey today.”

Dr. Shilpa Gupta, our trainer for this workshop, is the Associate Director of Centre for Child and Adolescent Wellbeing (CCAW), and Director at Child Mental Health Foundation. This unique workshop was conducted at SCOPE Convention Centre, New Delhi.

During the 3-hour workshop duration, the participants were taught to overcome paralyzing emotional states and enhance the ability to communicate clearly. Challenges in lives of communicators were taken into account and psychology-based techniques of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) were used to address them all. Shri SS Rao, Secretary, PRSI said, “The daily lives of communicators was highlighted. A discussion was carried out on their daily challenges. Techniques were taught to enhance our communication even further.” Participants were sensitized about emotional vocabulary, which is knowing the true meaning of words we use to express our emotions. For instance, we may use the word ‘depression’ being unaware of how the word usage impacts our emotional states. Dr Shilpa informed the participants that we easily use words like happiness, anger, joy, disgust, surprise, and fear without actually fully understanding their meaning. We make our own meanings of them, label these meaning with words and start living around those definitions. This section educated the participants about the scale and intensity of emotions and how to rate them.

Towards the end of the workshop, by 6 PM, as the participants began feeling good and were elated, the trainer asked them to evaluate their communication before and after the workshop. The result was delightful, and everyone was equipped with tricks to experience the delight again. healthysoch
