Girl suspected to be suffering from dengue dies in Delhi

New Delhi, November 12, 2019 :

A 16-year-old Delhi girl, A resident of East Kidwai Nagar, suspected to be suffering from dengue, has died at Max Hospital. She was running fever for the last 8-10 days. More than 1500 families are residing in various towers of East Kidwai Nagar complex.

The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) is responsible for cleaning, sweeping, collecting garbage and carrying out anti-malarial and anti-larval activities at the complex.

Less than 1100 cases of dengue and no deaths due to the mosquito-borne disease have been reported so far this year in the city. In 2015 over 15,000 dengue cases had been recorded and 60 people had died in the national capital.

Of the total dengue cases, there were 787 in October, the highest in any month so far this year, while in the same month 249 malaria cases were also recorded. 143 cases of chikungunya have also been reported this year.

Last year, 2,798 dengue cases and four deaths were recorded by the SDMC. It had also reported 473 cases of malaria and 165 cases of chikungunya.

 Preventing death

  1. A Dengue case become serious when the fever is subsiding or has just subsided. It usually happens between 5-7 days of illness
  2. The clinical marker is reduced pulse pressure which is the difference between upper and lower blood pressure with acute fall in platelet count with simultaneous Rapid rise in haematocrit value
  3. If the difference between the upper and lower blood pressure is < 20 and the haematocrit value is more than 50 suspect serious dengue especially if the patient is experiencing acute weakness and give him 20 ml of fluid per kg body weight start before transferring him or her to the hospital.
