Ankleshwar/New Delhi, August 22, 2025:

Kaka Ba Hospital, the charitable facility run by Cadila Pharmaceuticals in Bharuch’s Hansot taluka, has successfully performed a complex spinal surgery, restoring mobility to a 69-year-old patient who had lost hope of walking again. The surgery was performed free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).

The beneficiary, Ambu Patel of Avadar village, Ankleshwar, had been living with relentless back pain radiating into his legs for almost a year. His condition gradually worsened to the point where he struggled with basic household activities. Despite repeated consultations with local practitioners, no effective treatment was found.

He was examined by spine surgeon Dr. Alpesh Thumbadiya, who diagnosed him with spondylodiscitis at L1–L2 and spinal cord compression, a serious condition requiring urgent surgical intervention.

Patel underwent a laminectomy and spinal stabilisation with interbody fusion using bone graft. The procedure was carried out under the PMJAY scheme, ensuring the family faced no financial burden. The patient was discharged on the fourth day of the surgery. He has since resumed a normal, pain-free life.

Commenting on the case, Dr. Alpesh Thumbadiya said, “Cases like these highlight the importance of timely intervention and specialised care. With the advanced facilities at Kaka Ba Hospital, we can deliver complex surgeries that not only save lives but also restore dignity and independence to patients.”

Expressing his gratitude, Ambu Patel said, “I had lost all hope of ever walking without pain. Because of the doctors and staff at KakaBa Hospital, I feel I have been given a second life. My family and I will forever remain grateful.”
