A tear or sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) : one of the strong bands of tissue that connects your thigh bone (femur) to your shinbone — is known as an ACL injury (tibia). ACL injuries are most common in sports like soccer, basketball, football, and downhill skiing, which entail rapid pauses or changes in direction, jumping, and landing.

Yes, it is possible if there is partial ACL tear. Or if the patient does not have an active lifestyle, his knee learns to cope without the ACL.

How painful is an ACL tear?

At the time of injury, the patient feels a pop in the knee which is very painful and following that most of the times there is swelling in the knee.

How long does it take for an ACL to heal?

If there is partial ACL tear, normally the healing period is about 3-4 weeks. After that the patient requires some physiotherapy of about 2-3 months to be fully fit

Is it possible to live with an ACL tear?

Yes, it is possible. Sometimes even with an ACL tear, the knee is stable and if the patient has a sedentary lifestyle.. he learns to cope with absent ACL in the knee
