Hyderabad/ Chandigarh, July 21, 2022:

Perhaps, for the first time a mosque in the world has given its space to set up a full-fledged haemodialysis Unit. Masjid-e-Mohammadia, located in Langar Houz will now have a state-of-the-art free dialysis centre mainly for weaker sections regardless of caste and creed.

NGOs, Helping Hand Foundation & SEED, USA, after having set up six Primary health centres & an Old Age home in mosques, have come together to leverage free space available in mosques for delivering critical community health care services to foster harmony apart from serving the needy.

The centre will have five latest Fresenius brand machines and will be expanded to another five in the next 3 months. For the first time, the dialysis will be free for patients & will be at zero cost to the patient.

The swanky centre set up like a corporate hospital facility within the mosque premises but with a separate access will be a standalone facility for dialysis patients equipped with the high quality of clinical care, equipment, and facility to manage onsite emergencies.

The Unit will be overall under medical supervision of Dr. Shoeb Ali Khan, leading consultant nephrologist and Kidney transplant surgeon. The Centre will have a medical doctor, ANMs, Dialysis technicians, ambulance available from 8am to 8pm.

An Estimated 50k CKD patients are roughly undergoing dialysis in the city and with the incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) rising significantly in Urban & rural areas, many patients and their families are facing a double edge sword, one is loss of income of the bread earner and two the high cost of treatment, many patients do not have white ration cards, a prerequisite for availing free health insurance & hence make cash payments.

In light of this preference will be given to such patients, who are also healthy and require up to 2 sessions per week, in other words 30 patients will be enrolled initially, resulting in a saving of Rs 1Crore of critical healthcare expenses per year said Mr. Mujtaba Hasan Askari of Helping Hand foundation one of the partners in the project.

The Centre was formally opened to the public regardless of caste and creed by Mr. SyedMazharuddin Hussaini, Executive Director of SEED, USA in the presence of Nawab Najaf Ali khan, Grandson of Last Nizam, Mr. Yasin Mohammed, Board Member, SEED, USA & Mr. Shafeeq Alam, President, Jamiat Ahle Hadees.
