Noida, October 9, 2017: Jaypee Hospital, a Multi Super Specialty Hospital at Sector 128 Noida, received a kidney today from Max Hospital, Saket. The kidney was donated by a brain dead patient Ramesh Singh (name Changed) aged 55 years, a resident of Jind, Haryana.
Ramesh had a Cerebral Vascular Accident (CSA) or brain attack due to which doctors at the hospital declared him brain dead. The organ of the deceased was allocated to Jaypee Hospital by National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).
The team of doctors who are leading this mission comprised of Dr. Amit Devra from Urology department and Dr. Vijay Kumar Sinha from Nephrology department.
Dr. Manoj Luthra, CEO, Jaypee Hospital said, “It is heartening to see that people are gaining awareness about cadaveric organ donation. Organs of a deceased patient can give a new life to at least six – eight people. It is a noble cause and we are thankful to the donor and his family who have taken this step and set an example for all of us.”
Dr. Amit Devra, Senior Consultant, Urology Department, Jaypee Hospital said, “It is estimated that 90% people in need of a critical organ to save their lives end up losing their lives due to unavailability of the donors. In India only 5,000 kidneys are available against the need of 21,000. With cadaveric organ donations like these we can try and overcome this alarming challenge.”
“The Kidney at Jaypee Hospital is being transplanted to a 44 year old Dinesh Malhotra (name changed) who is a diabetic and was suffering from a chronic kidney disease from the last two years. The recipient’s parents also have blood sugar and his ailing wife’s blood group was not matching to him. Hence, the patient was in a critical need of kidney transplantation,” said Dr. Vijay Kumar Sinha, Consultant, Nephrology Department, Jaypee Hospital.
“We are thankful to the donor and his family who even in this moment of pain and shock came forward for this noble cause. We will never forget the family’s bold step to save our patient’s life” said a family member of the Kidney recipient, Dinesh Malhotra.
