Dr. Jaswant Singh Puri, Doctor of letters (Honoris Causa) is not a new name in the realm of journalism and attempting new themes and subjects. His recently entitled book ‘Rise and Decline of the Mughal Empire’ is in fact a mini-book but comprises the description in a nutshell of knowledge that is par-excellent and unsurpassed in language. The book speaks of its matter presentation in a concise manner that is revealing and imparts information in its very first reading. It is an earnest endeavor by the author who has labored hard to collect the minute details and depicting them in an interesting and exciting manner that inspires the reader’s involvement. It being a pocket size edition is easy to grasp without any stress and strain. The author by virtue of his adeptness and deep analysis has created ample urge among the readers to go through the book since one does not read it with a heavy mind but goes through it is a relaxed manner. It is he feature of this mini-book that has captivated the people.
The ‘History in Pocket’ book is the right epithet for it since it traces the sufimystic grandeur in a lighter vein and then presenting the lives of Emperor Akbar, Sir Sayyid Ahmed Khan, the dynamic personalities like Moti Lal Nehru, his son Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Pandit Sadanand Kaul, Gangadhar Nehru and many more in a simple language but lucid style without using big bombastic words to show any erudition. Simple language, simple style, simple sentences with spontaneity of ideas are the key factors of the mini-book.
All these features are encompassed in a small book and this peculiarly characteristic of this light-book. Above all, the depiction of personalities carries colored pictures that add to its illuminating manner. It is an added attraction to create a glimpse of the personality on the minds of the readers that imparts a continuous reading without any break.
The book without any doubt presents the harmony among the various castes and creeds, sects and religions of society. All the people whether Hindu, Muslim, Sikhs, Christians celebrated the festivals of one another on a single platform to show their harmony and get-together feelings in a unified manner. Holi, Diwali, Basant Panchami, Id festivals were celebrated with gusto. Even the poets like Ghalib, the last poet of the Mughal era has been included. The role of the British Empire has also been included to exhibit their influence. All these qualities show the excitement among the one and all to have a thorough perusal of the book.
The book ‘Rise and Decline of the Mughal Empire’ has won several accolades and appreciations. Its very foreword by Preneet Kaur, Ex-Member of Parliament, (Lok Sabha), Ex-Minister of State for External Affairs, is a new feather in its cap since she states clearly that “the author has shown a natural ability to reflect upon the days of the nineteenth century. I congratulate the author for his laudable effort to sketch the effects in pictures and language alike.”
Consequently, the book has won several accolades. Its first copy was launched by Hon’ble Dr. R.Velu, I.A.S., Former Union Minister of State, Railways Government of India. Interestingly the author was awarded Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) in the evening of 23rd June, 2018 at Hotel Chandra Park In Gandhi Irwin Road, Egmore, Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Dr. I.S. Basha, General Secretary, Global Economic Progress and Research Association, India in the Nehru Cap is standing with the author. Honorable Justice K. Swami Durai, Madras High Court Judge, State Human Rights Commission, Government of Tamil Nadu is standing with the Former Union Minister of State, Railways, Government of India. At the extreme end is standing Honorable Lion P. Put Hukam, Lions District Governor-324 A6 after the degree was conferred on him.

The fame of the book is attributed as a number of newspapers have published its launching in a receptive manner. Chandigarh Tribune covered it in their esteemed column on July 13, 2018 where it was launched by Preneet Kaur Former Union Minister of State For External Affairs at a function organised at New Moti Bagh, Patiala. Moreover, Chardikala, a local Punjabi daily newspaper also figures the same where Former Union Minister of State for External Affairs has launched the book with her gratious hands.

Moreover, the copies of the book have also been launched graciously by his Excellency, Governor of Haryana, Shri Satya Dev Naryan Arya at Haryana #Raj Bhawan, at Chandigarh in the forenoon of Thursday, 11 October, 2018. The Honorable Vice-President of India has acknowledged with thanks a copy of the booklet ‘Rise and Decline of the Mughal Empire’.
