The nation has lost an admirable human being : Dr Prathap Reddy

August 16, 2018

New Delhi , August 16 , 2018 :

“An era comes to an end with the passing away of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The nation has lost not just a Bharat Ratna, a statesman par excellence, but also an admirable human being. His gift with words, his decency and grace in dealing with friends and foes were the mark of an exemplary life in politics. His warmth and soft-spokencharming manner ensured he was loved by all whose lives he touched. He put the nation on the fast track with initiatives like the Golden Quadrilateral project, the New Telecom Policy, the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and the Fiscal Responsibility Act that laid down the path for future governments to follow.

He was always very kind and affectionate to me and to Apollo for detecting and diagnosing a condition during his Master Health Check-up which needed immediate intervention. He recovered well and went on to become the Prime Minister. I had the privilege of meeting him several times at different fora and he always talked highly of Apollo Hospital, its people and its capabilities. I remember how readily he agreed to inaugurate the OPD at our hospital in Delhi – his encouragement at every step helped build Apollo Hospitals to the institution it is today. I also met him when he was unwell at his home.

I have lost a dear friend who shared my belief in the role that access to quality healthcare can play in a nation’s development. The entire Apollo Family is grieved that this great leader is no longer with us. We will always remember him for his kindness, affection and admiration for us. He will be deeply missed.”
