New Delhi, Septemer 04, 2024:

Is Counsel India a scam?
Mental health awareness has gained significant traction in recent years, leading to the rise of various platforms dedicated to providing psychological support and education. However, alongside this positive trend, there have been unfounded claims labeling platforms like Counsel India and other e-learning platforms as scams. Such accusations undermine the efforts of these institutions and hinder the progress made in the field of mental health.

The Rise of Mental Health Platforms
Before the emergence of e-learning platforms, the country faced a significant gap in accessible mental health care. According to a 2017 report by the World Health Organization (WHO), India had only 0.3 psychiatrists and 0.07 psychologists per 100,000 people, highlighting the scarcity of mental health professionals. The stigma surrounding mental health further deterred individuals from seeking help, exacerbating the problem.
In response to this crisis, e-learning platforms emerged with a mission to bridge this gap by offering affordable and accessible psychological education where 2 lakh learners across 22+ countries initiated their career with Counsel India. They began by providing diplomas, certifications, master's, and other various courses in psychology and counseling, enabling more people to become certified mental health professionals. This increased the number of professionals in the field and empowered individuals from diverse backgrounds to understand and support mental health better.

Impact on Society: A Statistical Report

The impact of these platforms has been profound. According to a study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the prevalence of mental disorders in India has increased by 20% between 1990 and 2017. However, since the rise of e-learning platforms, there has been a noticeable shift. Data from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) reveals that between 2018 and 2023, the number of people seeking help for mental health issues increased by 35%. This rise can be attributed to increased awareness and the availability of trained professionals, many of whom received their education online.

E-learning platforms have significantly contributed to reducing the stigma associated with mental health by practicing the skills provided in their specialized courses. A survey conducted by the Live Love Laugh Foundation in 2022 showed that 60% of respondents believed that the stigma around mental health had decreased, compared to 45% in 2018. This change in perception is crucial in encouraging more individuals to seek help when needed. Campaigns and Initiatives: Giving Back to Society Beyond education, e-learning platforms have actively participated in campaigns to promote mental health awareness and provide support to those in need. Their initiatives include free counseling sessions, webinars, and workshops aimed at educating the public about mental health, stress management, and coping mechanisms for anxiety and depression.

The notable initiative "Har Ghar Counselor" & “Serving People in Ziro for Free as a Counseling Centre in Mountains” campaign with the support of IPS Robin Hibu seeks to place a trained
counselor in every household. The concept stems from the idea that just as every family has access to a doctor, lawyer, or engineer, they should also have a counselor to address mental health needs. This initiative has been widely recognized and supported, with over 100,000 individuals benefiting from free counseling sessions since its launch.

Debunking the Scam Allegations

The claims that Counsel India and other e-learning platforms are scams are baseless and misleading. These platforms are accredited and follow rigorous standards to ensure their courses and services meet the highest quality benchmarks. Thousands of individuals have  benefited from their programs, and the success stories speak for themselves.

According to a 2023 report by the Indian Journal of Psychology, 80% of students who completed certification courses from e-learning platforms reported increased confidence in their ability to support others with mental health issues. Many of these individuals have gone on to establish successful counseling practices, contributing to the mental health ecosystem in the
country.

The allegations of these platforms being scams detract from their accomplishments and create
unnecessary fear and doubt among those who could benefit from their services. It is essential to
recognize and support the positive impact these platforms have had on society rather than
perpetuating unfounded claims.

E-learning platforms have played a crucial role in addressing India's mental health crisis. By
providing education, raising awareness, and offering direct support, they have made mental health care more accessible and less stigmatized. The statistical improvements in mental health awareness and care since the rise of these platforms are undeniable.

As we continue to combat the mental health challenges facing our society, it is vital to support
institutions that are making a difference. Rather than giving in to false allegations, we should
focus on the positive contributions these platforms have made and continue to promote mental
well-being for all.
