Gurugram, November 30, 2021:

The CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram recently conducted an extremely complex and delicate surgery on a 23-year-old male. The patient accidentally cut his index finger completely at the construction site and was rushed to the hospital. The pioneering surgery was successfully performed as the patient reached the hospital within the golden hour. The rare surgery was performed by a team of doctors under the guidance of Dr. Anmol Chugh, Plastics & Aesthetics Centre at the CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram.

The patient first went to a nearby clinic from where he was referred to the CK Birla Hospital for surgery. Dr. Chugh and his team examined him and immediately decided to perform complex microsurgery to reattach the finger. The separated end of the finger was kept in saline gauze in an ice pack to maintain the moisture of the part.

The doctors stitched blood vessels that are as thin as a strand of hair in size with the advanced techniques available in the hospital. In this surgery, the size of the stitches was less than one-tenth of millimeters. The surgeons successfully restored all the crucial tendons, bones, and nerve ends. The clinical expertise and timely decision by the doctor gave new hope and encouragement to the patient.

While talking about the procedure, Dr. Anmol Chugh, Plastics & Aesthetics Surgeon, CK Birla Hospital said, “When the patient was brought to the emergency, he was scared and nervous as his finger was completely detached from his hand. Thankfully, he came at the right time, and we immediately performed the surgery. It took about 5 hours to attach the finger and were able to restore the blood supply of the finger. Post the surgery, his condition was monitored closely, and he was successfully discharged with a reattached finger, functioning normally.”

These on-site injuries are common among factory workers, but this was a rare case as the finger was completely detached from the hand. In such cases, timely treatment, availability of advanced equipment alongwith clinical excellence plays a crucial role in determining the success of the procedure.
