Week-Long Self-Defense Training Program for Female Medical Staff in Collaboration with Delhi Police’s Parivartan Cell

Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh, in collaboration with the Parivartan Cell of Delhi Police has launched a seven-day Self-Defense Training Program to empower the medical female staff with essential self-defense skills. This initiative was undertaken in the light of the recent incident at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The program aims to train around over 600 female medical staff, who will be trained over the next seven days in a variety of self-defense techniques. These techniques include punches, elbow strikes, blocking, eye attacks, and methods to escape from hair and hand grips. Additionally, the training will cover the effective use of everyday items as improvised weapons, ensuring that the participants are prepared to defend themselves in any situation.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Deepak Narang, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh, said , “We are grateful to the Delhi Police for this valuable collaboration. In today’s times, it is crucial for every girl and woman to learn self-defense techniques. This training program will equip our female staff with critical self-defense skills, ensuring they are well-prepared and confident in protecting themselves. Our goal is to empower our female staff to respond decisively in any challenging situation.”

Shri Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northwest District Delhi said , “The program has been initiated to enhance awareness in the female medical staff working in hospitals. Our program aims to provide the female medical staff with vital self-defense abilities. The training helps in building up the self-esteem of women so that they do not feel vulnerable and humiliated. The art of self-defense can go a long way towards protecting oneself and others in need. The endeavor of the Delhi Police is to ensure that the women of the city and the female medical staff are not only safe and secure but, also empowered in every sense of the word and the Parivartan Cell is committed towards this goal.”
