Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal will inaugurate the country’s first smog tower on August 23, 2021 at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place. Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai thoroughly inspected the progress of the project on ground on Thursday. Shri Gopal Rai said that the performance and impact of the smog tower will be assessed by the experts who will submit a report to the government and the Delhi Government will establish similar towers throughout Delhi if the performance is impressive. The Smog Tower will clean 1000 cubic metres of air every second and reduce PM 2.5, PM 10 levels in Delhi.
Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai said, “The Kejriwal Government is committed towards reducing the pollution levels in Delhi. Taking into account the current situation, the first smog tower of the country is being established at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place. The tower is estimated to clean 1000 cubic metres of air every second, helping reduce PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels in the area. The efficiency and impact of this smog tower will be very crucial for the Delhi region. If the performance of the smog tower is found to be satisfactory, then we will replicate similar smog towers throughout Delhi. I am confident that the smog-tower will yield positive results for us.”
“The smog tower will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal on August 23, 2021. After the inauguration, experts will start monitoring the performance of the tower and then assess its impact on the environment. We will accordingly submit a report to the government and act upon the plan,” he added.
“Delhi Government is working on reducing pollution in the city with full force; be it dust pollution, vehicular pollution or stubble burning, the government is putting its best foot forward to identify & implement the best solutions possible to combat them. I am certain that the smog-tower built at the cost of 20 crore rupees will contribute immensely towards this cause. The smog tower will work with full force after the monsoon season. The scientists of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee will accordingly assess the performance of the tower and present a monthly report,” the minister said.
