New Delhi, January 02, 2021 :
Delhi Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is leaving no stone unturned in its fight against Covid. Staying true to the vision of a responsible and sensitive government, CM Arvind Kejriwal today presented every facet of the Covid situation related data. He drew parallels with the past to explain how the situation is very much under control as well. The CM stated — Omicron is a very very mild variant of Covid. Data shows how oxygen beds, ventilators are lying vacant even with a high spread in cases. The situation is not worth panicking over.
We need to maintain caution. Please wear masks, follow social distancing and regularly wash hands with soap. 99.78% Covid Beds are vacant in Delhi hospitals but we are still making preparations for 37,000 beds to stay ahead of the virus. Approximately 6,000 active cases have been recorded in Delhi right now but only 82 oxygen beds have been occupied. Most patients are recovering at home. The situation is significantly better than the second wave; back then 1,700 oxygen beds, 231 ventilators were occupied, today only 82 beds and 5 ventilators have been needed yet.
Arvind Kejriwal said, “Hearty greetings of the new year to everyone, may this bring the whole country health, wealth, peace and prosperity. Covid is on the rise in Delhi, the numbers are seeing a jump day by day. However, I want to reinforce that the situation is not worthy of a panic and thus am presenting data to support it. There’s no need to worry but we need to be completely cautioned about the virus.”
The CM then went on to present how the cases of Covid are on the up, and said, “On December 29, we saw 923 cases, on 30th December, 1,313 cases, on December 31st, 1,796 cases, and then the cases jumped by a thousand on January 1, 2022 to be recorded at 2,796. About 3,100 cases is likely to be recorded by today evening as well.”
Total 6,360 active cases in Delhi but only 82 oxygen beds occupied: CM Arvind Kejriwal:
He then presented the data of active cases and bed occupancy in Delhi, and said, “active cases translate into the total number of patients in the state at present. There are a total of 6,360 active cases in Delhi. Three days back on December 29, there were 2,191 active cases here. Roughly, there has been a rise of approximately 4,000 active cases in 3 days. But, on December 29, 262 hospital beds were occupied by Covid patients and now it has dropped down to 247 cases on January 1. This means that those who are getting infected by Covid have very mild symptoms and do not need to go to the hospitals.
They’re mostly asymptomatic or mild cases till yet. As of today, only 82 oxygen beds are occupied in Delhi and this number has remained stable for days. There’s barely one who’s coming to the hospital needing oxygen even when there are 6,000 active cases. Only 0.22% beds have been occupied whereas 99.78% beds are vacant. That being said, the Delhi Government is preparing 37,000 Covid oxygen beds in Delhi to be ahead of the virus at all times.”
Drawing parallels of the present day situation with that during the height of the second wave to explain what we are headed into: CM Arvind Kejriwal:
The CM drew parallels of the present day situation with that during the height of the second wave. He stated, “at present there are about 6,300 active cases, on March 27 there were about 6,600. But back then, 1,150 oxygen beds were occupied while today only 82 are occupied. About 145 patients were on ventilators, today only 5 are. Back then, there were 10 deaths daily, today there’s barely one or none at all. I just mean to explain the lack of severity of the situation at hand. On April 1, when almost 2,700 cases were recorded in a single day like yesterday, 1,700 oxygen beds were occupied in Delhi while only 82 are needed today. 231 patients were on the ventilator compared to the 5 of the present.”
Have to be completely responsible, we must wear masks in public, follow social distancing: CM Arvind Kejriwal :
CM Arvind Kejriwal concluded, “I just want to tell the people of Delhi that there is no need to panic at all. I request the media too to not create a state of panic and hype in this situation. We all have to be completely responsible, we must wear masks in public, follow social distancing and wash hands with soap. The variant is very very mild and your government will always no matter what stand with you, please do not panic.”
