New Delhi, August 26, 2021:
These wards will be equipped with more than 100 ‘oxygen beds’ and the work will be completed by October 15, 2021. In October 2020, the capital witnessed a deadly winter surge with a daily caseload of more than 5,000.
A panel set up by the National Institute of Disaster Management has recently submitted a report to the Central Government predicting the onset of the third wave in mid-October. The Government of NCT of Delhi is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the national capital is fully prepared to battle the third wave of Covid-19 in Delhi.
Since experts have suggested that children, who remain unvaccinated may bear the brunt of the third wave, the focus on their protection is utmost. Swati Maliwal, chief of Delhi Commission for Women, also monitored the construction of the wards along with the Health Minister.
Satyendar Jain, who is closely monitoring the construction of new wards and covid related facilities across the capital said that “these wards at the LNJP Hospital will be equipped with all necessary Covid-19 related medical facilities like oxygen beds, ventilators, and ICUs. The Kejriwal Government is ramping up the capacity of all its government hospitals to ensure an enhanced effective response is built against the Covid-19 virus.
Satyendar Jain was accompanied by hospital staff and doctors while he inspected the progress of work where he stated, “October 15 has been set as the deadline for the construction of these wards.”
The Health Minister also highlighted the efforts being made to enhance the health infrastructure in the national capital against the potential outbreak of the third wave of Covid-19. He further said, “we are closely monitoring the situation in Delhi and all the necessary lessons are taken from previous Covid-19 waves to form appropriate policies in the public interest.
The Kejriwal Government is focused on strengthening the beds capacity of Delhi Government hospitals to ensure a high-quality treatment that is easily accessible to the people in case there is an outbreak of the third wave of Covid-19.”
This inspection of the work of Covid-19 wards at LNJP comes just a day after Satyendar Jain visited Delhi Government’s Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital to inaugurate the ‘Covid-19 Rapid Response Centre’ dedicated to the people of Delhi.
The newly built 30 bedded facility was launched by the Health Minister on Wednesday. This facility is designed to act as a buffer zone for treating patients immediately upon arrival to the hospital, omitting the long wait for admission. The reduction in response time is the matter that the Delhi Health Department is taking on a priority basis.
The Delhi Government has been working on a war footing to increase the bed capacity and improve the quality of the services offered at its Government Hospitals. The efforts showed positive results during the second wave of Covid-19 when Delhi Government Hospitals proved to be performing better than private ones in handling higher caseloads & offering high-quality treatment. Delhi Health Minister, during his visit, talked to the medical staff, patients, and doctors of the LNJP Hospital and took note of their suggestions as well as needs. A consultative, collaborative approach has helped the Kejriwal government devise better strategies for defeating Covid-19.
