“We have an extreme shortage of vaccines in Delhi. For COVAXIN, we have stock left for only one day, and for Covishield, only 3-4 days’ stock is available”

New Delhi, May 10, 2021:

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain Monday said Delhi is facing an acute shortage of vaccines, with just one day’s worth of COVAXIN, and 3-4 days’ worth Covishield in stock.

He added that the Centre supplied nearly 730 MT of oxygen a few days back, and hoped the adequate quantity will soon reach Delhi. Satyendar Jain then declared that the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee had set up a 400-bedded isolation and treatment centre for COVID patients in Rakabganj Gurudwara. He added that the Delhi government would extend every form of support to this Centre. He went on to state that this centre has been attached with LNJP Hospital, wherein in case a patient develops critical symptoms, he/she will be shifted to the hospital.

Shri Jain said, “A 400-bedded isolation and treatment centre for covid patients has been set up in Rakabganj Gurudwara by the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee. All support will be given and facilitated by the Delhi government. The centre has been attached with LNJP Hospital, wherein in case any patient develops critical symptoms, he/she will be shifted to the hospital. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the DSGMC for setting up this fully air-conditioned infrastructure. The Delhi government has taken care of the medical facilities and equipment. Other than that, all facilities have been set up by the DSGMC itself. I would like to urge the people of Delhi that those who wish to get treated may come here. Similar COVID care centres have been set up in various parts of Delhi. We do have ample number of beds and in case a patient who is admitted here gets severe, they will be shifted to the ICU Ward of hospital.”

Throwing light upon the decline in cases, Shri Jain asserted, “We can see a ray of hope now that in the past few days, not only is the positivity rate decreasing, but a downfall in the number of cases is also being observed, which seems to be reducing to half. When there was a time Delhi was recording approximately 28,000 cases, this has fallen to around 13,000. The 36% positivity rate has now fallen to nearly 20%. We hope the spread will reduce. Nevertheless, we should not cut back on our preparations, and need to continue to protect ourselves in every possible way. This has been India’s second wave, but is the fourth one for Delhi. Nobody knew its severity and the ferocity of the infection rate. We cannot afford to relax right now, and need to be safe and careful at the same time. We hoped we would receive sufficient oxygen from the Centre, and while we did receive nearly 730 MT a few days back, we hope the Centre will continue to provide Delhi with oxygen in adequate quantities.”

Shri Jain then spoke of the shortage in vaccines and added, “Delhi is facing an acute shortage of vaccines. For COVAXIN, we have stock only for one day left, and for Covishield, only 3-4 days’ stock is available. We really want the entire population of Delhi to be vaccinated and are conducting a mass vaccination drive.”
