New Delhi, April 08, 2021 :

Delhi Health Minister, Shri Satyendar Jain said that Delhi reported 5,506 positive cases yesterday and the positivity rate was nearly above 6%, and 90,000 covid tests were conducted.

He further added that this peak is witnessing more cases as opposed to earlier peaks in which the highest count stood at around 99,000 cases. The number of fatalities reported was lodged at 20 yesterday, and the case fatality ratio stood at 0.4%. Jain mentioned that the last peak was reported in November and the case fatality rate was 2-3%. The mortality ratio, as compared to the last peak, is lesser. Jain asserted that the Kejriwal-led government has made two more requests, viz: the vaccination should be allowed for everyone, at least adults; the second one is to allow vaccination camps in communities unlike the existing method of the jabs being inoculated in healthcare facilities only.

Satyendar Jain said, “Delhi reported 5,506 positive cases yesterday, the positivity rate was nearly above 6%, and 90,000 covid tests were conducted.”

Jain said, “Yesterday, India reported 1,25,000 cases, as opposed to the earlier peaks in which the highest count was lodged at 99,000. This means that this peak is more infectious, and the number of cases is higher than the previous ones.”

Jain further said, “The positivity rate in Delhi is nearly above 6%, while in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, it has been around 25% and 18% respectively. In many other states, the positivity rate is above 10%.”

Responding to queries surrounding fatalities in the month of April, Jain said, “There were 20 deaths over 5,506 cases yesterday and the case fatality ratio was 0.4%. The last peak was in November and the case fatality rate was 2-3%. The mortality ratio is lesser in this peak as compared to the last ones. This time, the coronavirus is spreading exponentially but the severity of the virus is less, and so are the fatalities.”

Commenting upon the requests made by the Kejriwal-led government to the centre to enable vaccine universalisation, Jain added, “We have made certain appeals to the Central Government regarding the vaccine. Earlier, CM Kejriwal wrote a proposal to allow vaccination of all people, at least for people above 45 years, which was implemented by the centre thereafter. On similar lines, we have made two more requests. First, the vaccination should be allowed for everyone, at least adults. Second, is to allow vaccination camps in communities unlike the existing method of inoculating jabs only in healthcare facilities.”

“I think that we should fight against coronavirus instead of politicising the issue. The Kejriwal-led government is taking effective measures to contain the spread of the pandemic. If anyone has any suggestion, they should be welcomed in positive spirits by the centre. Our responsibility is to give suggestions, and the centre did acknowledge some of them. This topic should not be politicised.” said Jain.

Responding to the queries surrounding the vaccination drive in Delhi, Jain added, “The vaccination drive is going well in Delhi, we have received some vials yesterday. The vaccination stock is available for 4-5 days with us. We will be receiving it continuously as per our demand. I believe we should fight against the coronavirus altogether. The issue is not that the vaccination in Delhi Government hospital is 75% and 30% in Central Government hospitals, the issue is that how effective we vaccinate more people as soon as possible. Since everybody above the age of 45 has been permitted to take the vaccine, people in large numbers should come up and get inoculated.”
