Health Minister Shri Satyendar Jain took part in the second wellness conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry. This virtual summit focused on aspects of health and wellness in times of the pandemic, wellness at the workplace, and wellness through preventive health and Ayurveda. In the event, The Health Minister said that wellness is an integral part of our lives and should focus on wellness and not on illness. He added that the poor lifestyle is the cause of most diseases and to cure it, efforts will have to be made on a large scale across the country. He further said that anything should be done for mental satisfaction and not for physical gratification.

Satyendar Jain said, “Wellness is an intrinsic part of our lives and we should protect it at all costs. Every individual should look after their wellness. One of the most important factors to maintain our wellness is to maintain our physical and mental systems. We should remain healthy, eat healthily, keep our health in check and keep working towards the wellness of ourselves.”

He further said, “In today’s time, the biggest issue apart from the coronavirus pandemic is the poor lifestyle that exists in our societies. We should take appropriate measures to tackle such diseases by maintaining healthy habits. Efforts will have to be made on a large scale across the country to cure it. Stress due to overworking is the main reason why we are not able to maintain our health and wellness.

The people working especially in private firms are working for longer periods, which leads to a lot of stress. As an individual, one should limit their working hours so that stress can be reduced and we can work on our wellness. The conditions of work that we are working under should not be stressful.”

He added said, “The young generation nowadays should keep in mind that life is important apart from materialistic things. Basic amenities of life, i.e. oxygen, water and food, are the important aspects of life. We, as humans, should work hard to achieve the ultimate goal of our lives with no stress. We should strive to achieve the goals not for the sake of physical gratification but internal satisfaction. By realising our self-worth without lowering our self-esteem, we should work accordingly to achieve our life goals.”

“Nowadays, one of the reasons for stress is over connectivity. There are two factors to it, either an individual is over-connected through social media or socially disconnected from society. Extensive use of social media is leading to a lot of stress. Limiting the use of social media and mobile phones can lead to a reduction of stress and improve our wellness. Instead of connecting through social media, one should connect physically with each other. One of the most feasible things one can do to limit the stress is to not use their mobile phones one hour before bed and after waking up,” added the Health Minister.

Satyendar Jain further added, “Some people work for a longer period and they put effort into doing their work but are not able to achieve the goals that put them under a lot of stress. We should not take any kind of tension in life and work hard to achieve our goals. Sometimes working under stress can restrain oneself from achieving the goal we are ought to achieve. We should work and pursue what we want to do in life. It will help us to reduce unnecessary stress and increase our wellness and mental health.”
