“ILD experts come together to conduct one of a kind ILD Symposium”
Bangalore, July 21, 2018:
Aster CMI launched its Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic on 15th July 2018 by conducting a daylong symposium at Lalit Ashok Hotel, Bengaluru. The symposium was conducted to provide comprehensive care to patients with pulmonary fibrosis with the help of a group of ILD Experts coming under one roof.
Pulmonary fibrosis are a group of heterogeneous lung diseases marked by extensive scarring of the lungs contributing to significant limitation to the patient. Patients who don’t address the scarring process in the right way early on may develop deteriorating lung functions with a dependence on oxygen for activities of daily living.
Explaining about the intention behind conducting such symposium, Dr Srivatsa Lokeshwaran, Consultant Pulmonologist, Aster CMI said :“The clinic comes as a respite for patients who suffer from pulmonary fibrosis giving them the benefit of multidisciplinary diagnosis which has shown to consistently improve the accuracy of the diagnosis & provide early intervention.”
The ILD clinic at Aster has collaborated with Department of Respiratory Medicine, NUH Singapore and other experts worldwide for best practices and is endorsed by the European Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and related disorders federation.
“When it comes to keeping pace with technology we are on par with other state of the art centres in the world able to deliver a swift diagnosis by using a new tool, cryobiopsy which could provide adequate lung tissue for a confirmatory diagnosis avoiding the need for even a key hole surgery for a lung biopsy” says Dr Sunil Kumar K, Consultant Interventional Pulmonologist and Chair, Aster ILD Clinic.
The program was attended by 130 delegates from all over the country with faculty of national reputation. The conference stressed on inculcating multidisciplinary diagnosis as gold standard in accordance with most guidelines and also ran a skill workshop focused on improving physician skills for diagnosing and treating lung fibrosis.
