New Delhi, September 30, 2021:

On the occasion of World Heart Day, Columbia Asia Hospitals, Palam (A Unit of Manipal Hospital) organized canvas painting sessions for all on the theme “Use heart to beat heart failure”. The participants painted a canvas of 20×6 feet in size. When we speak of heart health, we often picture older people. Studies, unfortunately, show that Indians are at risk of heart disease at least a decade earlier than western counterparts. This means there is an increasing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in people as young as 30. India already accounts for one-fifth of deaths worldwide, caused by cardiovascular diseases. And this reflects in the younger population as well, with an age-standardized death rate of 272 per 1,00,000 population as compared to the global average of 235.

Mr H C khurana, President of Senior Citizen Forum and SHO Palam Vihar Mr. Jitender Kumar also addressed the people at the cardiac camp on the importance of heart health and helped in completing the canvas painting. Mr. Manish Gupta, General Manager, Columbia Asia Hospital, Palam Vihar; Cardiologist Dr Monik Mehta and Dr Amit Gupta also graced the occasion.

The aim of this canvas painting is to encourage the residents of Palam and near-by areas to motivate and indulge into routine screening of heart and raise awareness on how cardio-vascular diseases are on rise among younger population and how one can keep their heart healthy following a balanced lifestyle. Factors like sedentary lifestyle, stress and anxiety, smoking, alcohol consumption are further aggravating heart problems. It is advised to take proper care of your heart and follow a strict regime.

Commenting on the event, Dr. (COL) Monik Mehte, Chief & Sr Consultant Cardiology, Columbia Asia Hospital, Palam Vihar said, “Heart is the most important organ of our body as it is critical for supplying blood to the rest of the body and the brain. That means taking care of your heart is most crucial thing, we often fail to realize its importance until we face serious symptoms like breathlessness, chest pain or numbness in the body. We are aware that by leading a sedentary lifestyle, we invite lifestyle diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure, and when both are prolonged, it leads to heart diseases. This World Heart Day, we should promise ourselves to take proper care of our health and loved ones. Eat a heart healthy diet and make smart lifestyle choices that will keep our heart young and responsive”.
