Chandigarh, November 23, 2021 :

Environmental risk factors precisely air pollution is third most man-made potent catastrophe to the eco-system as well as the health of all living beings including children, expected/pregnant women and elderly people leading to critical non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), respiratory illness, lung cancer, stroke, including disabilities and deaths across globe. It is pertinent to mention that air pollution is both non-controllable and non-escapable.

Air Pollution especially particulate matter (PM) such as PM2.5 & PM10 particles can penetrate deep into lungs and causes the potential harm to health and closely related to excessive premature mortality. In India, air pollution is responsible for nearly 14% contribution to Disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) due to NCDs. People are exposed to air pollution through divergent sources ranging from industrialization, increasing emission of smoke, crop burning or other major sources, etc. Mounting proportion of population is not even aware about the exposure to indoor air pollution especially women, youngsters having higher exposure to household air population and severely affects pregnant women and kids, which lead to pneumonia, reduce birth weight, lung growth, aggravates asthma and adversely affects brain the development in children.

With the objectives to cascade awareness and disseminate wisdom about the severe impact of rising air pollution on human health and to mitigate its impact through preventive measures and effective actions, under Illness To Wellness campaign, ASSOCHAM is organizing a webinar on “Impact of Air Pollution on Health & Life” on Wednesday, 24th November 2021 from 2.00 PM To 3.30 PM.
