The kidney recipient is a housewife residing in Greater Noida. The organ was transported to Jaypee Hospital from Vaishali in about 20 minutes

Noida, 4th May, 2017: Jaypee Hospital, a Multi Super Specialty Hospital at Sector 128 Noida, gifted a new lease of life to a 33 year old woman suffering from chronic kidney disease. All this was possible through the kind act of a brain dead patient at a hospital in Vaishali who donated his organs.

The kidney of the donor aged 26 years, a resident of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh was allocated to Jaypee Hospital by National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO).

Upon receiving the news, a senior team from the Nephology and Urology department at Jaypee Hospital rushed to Vaishali to receive the Kidney. The team comprises of Dr. Anil Prasad Bhatt and Dr. Bheem Raj from Nephrology department and Dr. Amit Devra and Dr. Mannan from Urology department. The team reached back hospital with the Kidney within 20 minutes at 2.50 am today and started the transplantation procedure then itself.

Dr. Manoj Luthra, CEO, Jaypee Hospital said, “Organ donation is a noble act and it is heartening to see how people are gaining awareness about cadaveric organ donation and coming forward for the same. Organs received from a deceased patient can save the lives of six – eight people. We are thankful to NOTTO for choosing our hospital for the transplantation and also to the donor and his family who saved the life of a patient through this noble act.”

Jaypee Hospital has started an initiative called G.O.O.D (Gift of Organ Donation) to encourage people to come forward and give a gift of life to people by donating their organs.

Dr. Amit Devra, Senior Kidney Transplant Surgeon, Jaypee Hospital said, “The patient was suffering from chronic kidney disease and had problem in urination, swelling in her feet and eyes, loss of appetite and fatigue and weakness. It took us around 2 and half hours to perform the surgery on her and now she is doing fine.”

In India around 2, 00,000 people suffer from kidney failures out of which only 5000 can get a new life though a kidney transplant. When the kidney disease reaches an end stage, kidney transplantation is the only option left.

“We are thankful to the donor and his family because of whom my wife has got a new life. Day by day her health was deteriorating, so we were eagerly looking for a suitable donor for her from a long time. May his soul rest in peace,” said husband of the kidney recipient.
