How can we improve the quality of our life (specially in old age) is the ‘Prime Question’ of the day.

Here are some tips :

  • One should slow down in every way, particularly in strenuous physical exertions after an age of 75 and above.
  • With age most of us experience a decline in our physical and mental powers. In old age circulation of blood in the body gets decreased.
  • Short supply of blood to the brain can lead to paralysis, brain hemorrhage and weakness in different parts of the body Lack of physical activity and heart problems are the main causes to reduce circulation of blood in the body.
  • One of the simplest exercise to improve blood supply in the brain is “Open your mouth as wide as possible” for 10-15 seconds and take a yawn. Repeat 3 times. Open your mouth as wide as possible. Now close your lips tightly and move them left, right and then rotate the jaws clockwise and anticlockwise.
  • Remember brain works on a simple function. Use it lose it.
  • Prolonged sitting can cause poor circulation of blood and potential health risk even if you exercise regularly. Take frequent break, preferably after every one and half hour. Just stand up, walk around and arch your back backwards 3-5 times.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink 6-8 glasses of fluids like water, milk, juices, soups, tea or coffee per day. Restrict tea or coffee to maximum 03 cups in a day. This helps in digestion and to get rid of waste products.
  • Intake of pomegranate, grapes, kishmish, anjeer etc. is useful to keep lungs healthy.
  • Potassium washes blood. Its deficiency can cause weakness of muscles, irregular heartbeat cramps in the body muscles, constipation and loss of memory. Significant sources of potassium are : Dry fruits such as dried dates, walnut, almonds, peanuts and cashew nuts, fresh fruits such as banana, kharbooja, Aadu etc.
  • Avoid telling about your age related problems. Actor Charlie Chaplin used to say that “I make others laugh but walk n rain to hide my tears”.
  • Regular Practice of yog abyas compatible with age and health status is the best tonic.
  • Eat 0n time, Sleep 0n time.
