 Morning Health Talk :

New Delhi, April 29, 2018 :

Dear Colleague

Legal

These one should be punished with capital punishment. Two men posing as doctors killed a newborn by cutting of his genitals in a bid to convince the mother she had given birth to a girl. The pair had told an eight-month pregnant woman she would have a girl after staging a sham ultrasound at an illegal clinic in the Chatra district of eastern Jharkhand state, according to Chatra’s top medical officer. But on seeing the child was a boy when he was born on Tuesday, the two cut off the genitals to pass him off as a girl with a deformity. The baby died almost immediately through blood loss.

AIIMS current strike is unfortunate. In my views the differences between the faculty and students should be tackled by the administration, respective associations or the state medical council and not by the public facing the strike.

Clinical

Do not just give oxygen. McMaster University researchers have found there is such a thing as too much oxygen for acutely ill adults. Supplemental oxygen, when given liberally to these patients, increases the risk of death without improving other health outcomes. The results were published today in The Lancet.

Wellness

Flavoured coffee drinks are loaded with carbs. Even ‘light’ versions contain enough carbs to significantly raise your blood sugar levels.

Weather

Temperature recoded at 1430 hours have risen by 3-5°C at one or two pockets of Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Assam & Meghalaya; by 1-3°C at most parts of West Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Maharashtra; at some parts of Jammu & Kashmir, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, rest Bihar and Kerala and at one or two pockets of Saurashtra & Kutch, Konkan & Goa, Vidarbha, Coastal Karnataka, Odisha and northeastern states

Pollution Watch

Air quality index of 306 in Delhi was recorded ‘very poor’ by Central Pollution Control Board’s for the second consecutive day on Friday. AQI on Thursday was 312. The change in the air quality could be because of shift in wind directions, bringing pollutants from north due to stubble burning instances reported in both Punjab and Haryana. With predicted rain, AQI may improve over the next two days.

At Ananad Vihar PM 10 was 332 and PM 2.5 only 88. At Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium PM 10 was 389 and PM 2.5 88. The fraction of PM2.5 will be higher in the PM10 fraction with pollution from transport and other combustion sources but the reverse will happen with more PM2.5 to PM 10 levels with dust re-suspension (from road dust and dust storms).

Quantum physics

We Are All One: Vedic text says that we all come from one God or one universal energy source. It has no characteristics, yet it is not nothingness because it contains all potential for life.

If you could look at an atom under a powerful microscope, you would see a small, tornado-like vortex that contained other infinitely small energy vortices called quarks and photons. These vortices are invisible to the human eye, and like all energy, they have no mass or physical structure.

The wave particle duality of the matter as explained in Quantum mechanics explains that any person, plant or even an object like a rock, its basic structure is nothing more than a collection of spinning energy vortices.

There is a field of energy that permeates the universe called the Higgs field connecting these wave particle dualities. This is what lies beneath all matter, and interacting with the Higgs field is what gives atoms and other particles their physical mass.

Public Health

If you live in Delhi and are entitled for Delhi Government services and if you need a surgery and the date given to you is beyond one month, you can get a referral to empanelled 42 private hospitals and get the surgery done there.

This is a very good initiative by the government as most surgeries  can now be done within one month window. The problem of not getting dates in a government hospitals will be practically over. All emergency surgeries in any way will need to be handled by the government set ups. Other states should follow the same.

Government

The Union health ministry has come out with a draft proposal to amend Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 to insert Part VIB to facilitate sale of drugs by e-pharmacy. The draft has no mention of a central server through which all online prescriptions would be routed to individual e-pharmacy portals. This was earlier proposed to prevent misuse of prescription medicines by making sure that a patient cannot use the same prescription at various e-pharmacies.

The draft said the e-pharmacy shall dispense drugs as per prescription received from patients. The e-pharmacy needs to maintain record of e-prescription of patients. The record will contain name, address, and sale licence number of the licencees who is dispensing the drugs mentioned in the prescription, name of the drug, quantity, date of expiry, name of manufacturer etc. The e-pharmacy shall not distribute drugs covered under the categories of the narcotic and psychotropic as referred to in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, tranquilizers and Schedule X drugs.

An e-pharmacy shall comply with provisions of Information Technology Act, 2000 and rules made thereunder, the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945. The e-pharmacy portal shall be established in India through which they are conducting business of e-pharmacy and shall keep the data generated through the portal in India. The patient data shall be kept confidential and can be shared with the government for public health purposes.

The e-pharmacy will require to put in place a facility for customer support and grievance redressal of all stakeholders which shall run not less than 12 hours for all seven days of a week. No e-pharmacy shall advertise any drug on radio or television or internet or print or any other media for any purpose. In the event of suspicion of supply of a not of standard quality or adulterated or misbranded or spurious drug through e-pharmacy to any customer, that customer may file a complaint in writing to the concerned State Drugs Controller, by whatever name called, in that State. Besides this, the customer has a right to seek relief under the Consumer Protection Act, 1985 and rules made thereunder. (Pharmabiz.com)
