New Delhi, January 23, 2022:

Dr. Rajesh Acharya is a senior neurosurgeon and professor at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital of Delhi. On Sunday 23rd January, 2022 Dr. Rajesh who is 61 years old, ran 21 km half marathon race at Nehru Park and has dedicated this 100th half marathon to his family and running friends.

Dr. Acharya who started running at the age of 53 years, initially participated once a year in the Airtel Delhi Half Marathons. Later, inspired by his runner friends, he completed his 50th (Half Marathon) on 1st March 2020.

In the last 2 years, during the lockdowns, since these marathons were not organised, he found the alternative of virtual and solo running. Now he has grown into a fitness freak and is running a 21kms distance (Half Marathon) almost on every Sunday since past 6 months.

Dr. Acharya derives his motivation by his father (83 year old), Hon. PM Modi Ji, Milind Soman and scores of running partners (Mr. Chikara, Naved, Dr. Bhatia, Dr. Vineet, Dr. SN Sethi, Dr. Gaurav, Dr. Munjal, Dr. Gambhir).

Dr. Acharya believes that โ€œAge is just a numberโ€. If one decides to come out of his or her comfort zone, with strength training and consistency one can run successfully. We should compete with ourselves, listen to our own body, take care of nutrition, hydration and rest for the musclesโ€™ recovery.

Dr. Acharya who has now been running in all weathers; believes that โ€œThere is no such thing as bad weather, just soft peopleโ€.

โ€œIf you have a will, it is very easy, if you have excuses, you never startโ€.

When asked what is the aim? Dr. Acharya quoted โ€œThe idea is to stay and die young, as late as possibleโ€.
